MY JOURNEY
Hello! I’m Rosie and I live in North Cumbria with my partner, two children and crazy dog Pepper.
First things first -what’s a Doula?
Doulas support in pregnancy, birth and in the postnatal period, by providing information, advocacy and offering practical and emotional support to the entire family.
Before embarking on my own motherhood journey, I was an outdoor instructor working with adults and children alike and still love the outdoors now, getting out most days in the wonderful Cumbrian countryside.
Aside from the outdoors and my own family, my other passion in life is supporting families to have a positive experience, from pregnancy right through to birth and the fourth trimester.
I feel I have been on a journey to become a Doula, for a very long time. I have observed my mum’s work as a Doula since I was a child, and therefore have been aware of the nature of the role and its benefits for birthing and nurturing the family. I naturally felt that I wanted this support for myself and my partner during my births. I have experienced the doula presence and how it helped to have our wishes fulfilled and our preferences respected even when the arrival of our first child wasn’t as expected. I hope to encourage the families I support to have those same feelings of empowerment we were lucky enough to experience.
In the last 5 years alongside raising my children and building a business with my partner, I have been volunteering as breastfeeding peer supporter, helping countless families with their breastfeeding journey and in turn carving out my own path into further supporting parents in their pregnancy and postpartum journey. Undertaking this volunteer work has been extremely rewarding and has led me to further my knowledge and skills by carrying out extensive training with ‘Carrying Matters’ and ‘Together We’ to become a Babywearing/Sling peer supporter too.
I love to help others discover the benefits of using slings safely and effectively, and this has culminated in me running a sling library in my local town of Penrith.
With my children now growing older, I have more flexibility and time to nurture my passion for supporting families and I’m very honoured to be asked to accompany family's to be their doula.
I can’t wait to hear from you and be a part of your journey. I work in and around Cumbria, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if your further away.
